Organic Lettuce: Leaf - Prizehead Planting Instructions:

Prizehead Leaf Lettuce thrives in full sun but will also tolerate partial shade. Grow time is 48 days from planting to harvest. Direct sow the seeds in early spring or fall, planting 1/8 inch deep and 1" apart. Rows should be 12 to 18" apart. Once the seedlings reach 1 to 2" tall, thin the plants to stand 8" apart. Unless rainfall is regular, you will need to water the lettuce deeply once a week, or more in drought conditions. Use a layer of compost or clean straw to help retain moisture. Lettuce is shallow-rooted, so be careful not to disturb the soil around the plants when weeding.

Organic Lettuce: Leaf - Prizehead Harvesting Instructions:

Lettuce has its best flavor and texture when harvested early. If left to grow for too long, lettuce develops a bitter flavor and tough texture. Plan to harvest in the morning or evening, when the leaves are crisp, sweet, and full of moisture. You can store freshly harvested lettuce in a plastic bag in the refrigerator for 5 to 7 days.

Did You Know This About Prizehead Leaf Lettuce?

Prizehead is a bit of a misnomer. This lettuce breed grows leaves, not heads. Its flavor and bright colors, however, are certainly prize-worthy.
