The 3 extra strands would be useful in a survival situation. The red strand is said to be waterproof tinder cord. The cotton thread is said to be useful for sewing and the poly ethylene braided 40 pound fishing line could be useful for those who fish. Then the remaining 7 strands are the 550 paracord which is always useful. You don't know how important rope and cord are until you need them and don't have them.
