Why People Choose #10 Cans

For building a durable food reserve, #10 cans make it practical to store meaningful quantities with minimal maintenance. Each can delivers a substantial supply of a single food with a long shelf life, efficient storage footprint, and straightforward use, making it easy to expand your pantry, supplement meal kits, and keep versatile staples ready for unexpected disruptions.

Key Decision Factors

The practical details most people compare when choosing long-term storage foods:

  • Calories: 4,620 total calories per can

  • Shelf Life: Up to 25 years when stored properly*
  • Preparation: Add boiling water; ready in 30 minutes. No additional ingredients required.
  • Ingredient Type: Hearty stew – pasta, lentils, vegetables, and broth
  • Packaging: Sealed steel #10 can with oxygen absorbers
  • Storage Efficiency: Large-volume format designed for long-term pantry storage

How #10 Cans Fit Into a Food Storage Plan

#10 cans make it easier to strengthen your supply over time by adding dependable staple foods exactly where you need them.

  • Extend the duration of meal kits by adding extra servings of key ingredients
  • Build redundancy in staples so you're not relying on a single source of food
  • Customize your storage around the foods your household actually uses
  • Add depth to your pantry gradually, instead of committing to one large purchase

#10 Cans vs. Grocery Store Cans: What's the Real Difference?

Grocery store cans are built for short-term pantry use. #10 cans are built for long-term food storage. The difference isn't just size—it's how long they last, how much food they hold, and how reliably they support real preparedness planning.

  • Built for Decades, Not Rotation: Grocery cans are meant to be used within a few years. Properly stored #10 cans are packaged for long-term storage so your reserve can stay sealed until needed.
  • More Food, Fewer Units: Each #10 can holds far more food than standard retail cans, making it more efficient for storing meaningful calorie quantities.
  • Storage-Grade Packaging: Oxygen absorbers and durable sealing help protect food from air, light, and moisture over long periods.
  • Designed for Preparedness: Grocery cans keep meals on hand. #10 cans help you build a supply you can rely on if stores aren't an option.

  • Store in a cool, dry location to maintain maximum shelf life
  • Keep unopened cans sealed until needed to preserve freshness and food quality
  • Once opened, transfer contents to an airtight container and use within one year
  • Follow preparation instructions on the label, as some foods may require cooking or hydration

Disclaimers & Notes

*It's best to store this emergency food in a dry, cool location—a dark area, if possible—at temperatures between 55°F and 70°F. Actual shelf life may vary based on individual storage conditions.

I already gave you a

"I already gave you a 5-star review!!!!! (How many of these do I have to write????)"

Carol T. (5/5)

Very versatile

"I mixed this with hamburger, black beans, Mexican corn, onions and green peppers and used chile mix seasoning instead of the bouillon and stewed tomatoes instead of water. and came up with a nice Mexican dish to eat with nachos or put on a soft taco. You definitely need to cook it 25 minutes or more or the rice won’t be done."

Diane H. (4/5)

Hearty but weak taste

"The stew is definitely satisfying, but the bouillon powder is not strong enough. I doubled the suggested amount of boullion and it still was tasteless. I think the instructions may be printed wrong maybe TSP ( teaspoon) should be printed as TBSP or TBS ( tablespoon. In the end I added pinto beans, salt, and a chicken boullion cube to a 4 serving ration. It is definitely worth the SALE PRICE! Get it for sure."

Dane (4/5)

April N. (5/5)

Not a stew—more of a casserole

"We organized an emergency preparedness group many years ago. A couple of weeks ago, 14 of our group members gathered together to taste test some Ready Hour soup products, including Travelers Stew. We prepared this exactly to the package directions. We felt that adding ingredients to the products to make them better was a great idea, but we may not have those ingredients in an emergency. This was the consensus of the group after tasting this product. 1. This wasn’t a stew. It was more of a tasteless casserole. The can didn’t provide enough bouillon to make this a stew. The liquid/bouillon that was provided was absorbed by the pasta. This left macaroni and crunchy dehydrated vegetables to eat. It had little flavor. 2. The vegetables were very crunchy. The ingredients for the stew were packaged together. There wasn't a way to separate the vegetables from the rest of the ingredients. The group felt the vegetables needed some way to be cooked longer than the macaroni to rehydrate them. Even putting this in a crockpot for a while didn’t soften the vegetables. 3. The consensus of the group was that if they were hungry, they would eat this. It wasn’t awful. It just wasn’t a stew, and it didn’t have much flavor. Adding more of your own bullion, vegetables, and spices might make this more inviting for your family to eat. 4. The can made a lot of product. Everyone agreed it was a good value for the cost of the product. Our experience in purchasing from My Patriot Supply has been very positive. 5. The consensus of the group was they would buy this again only if they also had the additional ingredients and spices stored to make this better."

Travelers stew

"Very fast shipping and am very happy with my purchase. I bought 10 of these to give away for Christmas presents along with home make vanilla. Thought it will be appreciated."

Joyce K. (5/5)

Very content with products

"Great! Can’t wait toMake another purchase!!!"

Minnie S. (5/5)

Being prepared

"Easy job purchasing the product, but have not tried it yet."

Vickie R. (5/5)

Long term food

"This is my third time ordering is always on time. What a great product."

Danny B. (5/5)

Fixed order, great customer service

"Ordered 6 months of emergency food and some additional cans for food. We had a missing item that after informing their customer service over their chat, had it delivered almost the next day. We have tried some of the food to try/test the flavor, and ease. And for the cost/quality of the food it was surprisingly real good. It is definitely something I would buy again if/when needed."

Q&A

How many servings?
The Traveler's Stew #10 Can (21 servings) has 21 servings.
The preparation instructions seem to indicate adding buoillon , so how is that, if the bouillon is already included in the mix and that you have to shake it up to mix it around with the vegetables and pasta?
Thank you for your question, Maris! Within the Traveler's Stew #10 Can, the bouillon should be in a separate pouch inside the can.
You did not answer my question last week! I asked what the specific Bioengineered Food Ingredient is in this soup mix. I know the ingredients are listed (for full transparency, as you said). But what is this ingredient???
We do have the bioengineered label on some of our products due to the use of the ingredient maltodextrin, which is a corn derivative or palm oil.
Please tell me what the Bioengineered Food Ingredients are on this soup mix as well as those used on other edible products you sell.
All of our ingredients are listed under the Nutritional Information for full transparency in ingredients.
I notice the directions for the Traveler's Stew calls for bouillon. Does that come with the stew or is it something I would have to provide ?
The Traveler's Stew #10 Can is a combination of pasta, lentils, vegetables and broth. The bouillon is added in the mixture. You want to ensure when you add your servings size to make sure to shake the can to mix-up all the ingredients as the pasta and other ingredients will settle to the bottom.
